Apply Now for Sixth Annual ISM R. Gene Richter Awards

Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) is inviting entries for the sixth annual ISM R. Gene Richter Awards for Excellence in Supply Management. The award competition was created to honor the vast professional contributions of R. Gene Richter, who was a pioneer in the field of supply management.

The ISM R. Gene Richter Awards for Excellence in Supply Management are open to supply management departments of all sizes and geographic locations, both domestic and international. ISM is accepting entries through an online submission process from July 1 - September 17, 2010. Entries should address big challenges for which new solutions have had wide organizational and/or supply chain impact. Multiple entries are welcomed in one or more of the following categories: Process, People, Organization/Structure, Technology and Sustainability.

For the 2011 awards, the project/initiative must either (1) have been completed and/or implemented or (2) have measurable outcomes within the date range of October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2010.

An application fee of US$1,000 per organization is required for 2011 award applications. Organizations that submit multiple applications will only be charged this fee once, regardless of the number of applications submitted. The application fee will be used to build the R. Gene Richter Scholarship Fund.

Richter award recipients will be notified in January 2011 and will be honored at an awards dinner on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the ISM Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit in Orlando, Florida. Winning organizations agree to present a Conference session describing their project. The 2011 award winners will join an esteemed group of previous winning organizations, including: Alltel Wireless; BP p.l.c.; DaimlerChrysler; Fluor-Hanford; HP; Johnson & Johnson; KLA-Tencor; LG Electronics; Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company; Masco Corporation; Pfizer Inc; Rockwell Collins; Royal KPN Telecom; and the U.S. Postal Service.

ISM 2010 Salary Survey Now Available

The world's largest supply management organization, Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM), this month releases analysis of its fifth comprehensive salary survey. A brief summary of the results is available to the general public, while a detailed report is available at no charge to ISM members. Nonmembers may purchase the detailed report for US$199.

ISM surveyed supply management professionals in the United States during January and February 2010. Random samples of customers were pulled from an ISM database that included both members and nonmembers. An e-mail message requesting participation was then sent to these customers. In all, a total of 973 responses were received, representing a response rate of 7.3 percent.

ISM's salary survey established average salaries (for the 2009 calendar year, all in U.S. dollars) for the following job titles:

  • Chief Purchasing/Supply Management/Sourcing: $240,408
  • Vice President, Purchasing/Supply Management/Sourcing: $226,562
  • Director, Purchasing/Supply Management/Sourcing: $132,398
  • Manager, Purchasing/Supply Management/Sourcing: $94,384
  • Experienced Supply Management Professional: $71,348
  • Entry-Level Supply Management Professional: $50,506

Additional summary report details include:

ISM's new Certified Professional in Supply Management® (CPSM®) designation is making a positive impact on the profession. Respondents who earned this designation reported an average salary that was 9.8 percent higher than those without any certifications, and 8.9 percent more than those who have not earned their CPSM®.

Gender still appears to affect the salary supply management professionals can expect to receive. The average salary among male respondents to this survey was $104,443, while the average salary among female respondents was $88,078.

Term of the Day

Today's ISM Term of the Day is: MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY ACT.

Definition: U.S. federal law adopted in 1975 to provide additional warranty protections in consumer transactions beyond those provided for under the UCC.

A different Term of the Day is posted on the ISM Home Page (www.ism.ws) each day — seven days a week. The Term of the Day is taken from the ISM Glossary of Key Supply Management Terms.

ISM members can access the online Members Only Glossary which includes terms from the private, public, and various industry sectors, and from a wide variety of sources. The Glossary can be browsed alphabetically, or searched by keyword.

To receive Just in ETime:

  • First, log into the ISM Web site using your username and password.
  • If you have never created a profile/account on the ISM Web site — or if you don't remember if you have an account — click "Log In" in the upper right-hand corner of the ISM Home Page.
  • Under "Log In," you will find a "Did you forget your username and password?" link. Click that link, and enter your e-mail address. (If you have more than one e-mail address, try each one.)
  • If you do have an account, the ISM system will e-mail you your username and password.
