ISM Honors Robert Monczka, Ph.D., C.P.M., With Supply Management's Highest Honor

For more than 25 years, Robert Monczka, Ph.D., C.P.M., has researched, taught and consulted about strategic purchasing/sourcing and supply management strategies and implementation processes. For his work and dedication to the profession, Tempe, Arizona-based Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) has awarded Monczka the J. Shipman Gold Medal Award — the profession's highest honor. Monczka accepted the award at ISM's 93rd International Conference and Educational Exhibit, in St. Louis.

Monczka currently serves as director, strategic sourcing and supply chain strategy research at CAPS Research, research professor of supply chain management in the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University (ASU) and professor emeritus at his alma mater, Michigan State University (MSU).

Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) offers you many online education topics and program types. Global in scope, these courses were developed by experts from leading organizations, professional associations, industry consortia, educational institutions, consulting firms and individual practitioners. Topics include a significant number of supply management titles as well as many new general business titles.

When you register for Knowledge Center courses, you and your organization have access to a comprehensive curriculum that addresses all areas of the supply chain, including:

• Self Directed (SDR) courses are modular, self-study courses, integrated with activities, case studies and an assessment test. These courses vary in complexity, range from one to 14 hours and are priced accordingly. They will provide you with in-depth knowledge in a specific subject area.
  
  
• Expert on Demand (EOD) courses require audio and provide overview presentations from experts in the field.
  
  
• Bundled Programs (BDL) are groups of modular self-study courses designed for concentrated learning in specific supply areas.

Earn Continuing Education Hours (CEHs) for every course that you complete. Course duration corresponds with the number of CEHs you will earn.

ISM also offers Instructor-Led courses that are interactive and facilitated by proven subject-matter experts. Each course is four weeks in duration and offered several times per year through the ISM Knowledge Center.

ISM's new international seminars — The Supply Manager's Guide to Doing Business in China; and, The Supply Manager's Guide to Doing Business in India are designed to build knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to historical, geographical, political, cultural, legal and business topics when working with suppliers or business associates in these two countries. Candidates will gain a sophisticated, world-centric view-critical for today's successful supply professional.

These two new international seminars have been designed with a special focus on culture, custom and how these factors play a significant in how to operate within these environments. The seminar also covers the critical business climate, the CISG-International Commercial Code and includes legal and contractual issues.

You will receive:

• Instructor Manual with teaching notes, case studies and sample exam questions

• Participant Manual with permission to copy
• Your name listed on ISM's Web site as a CPSM Review Instructor (must attend full program)

Please note: There is no charge for this course, however, the CPSM Study Guide is a required text.

Term of the Day

Today's ISM Term of the Day is: EQUITY BOOK VALUE.

Definition: Ownership interest in a corporation in the form of common stock or preferred stock. It also refers to total assets minus total liabilities, in which case it is also referred to as shareholder's equity or net worth or book value.

A different Term of the Day is posted on the ISM Home Page (www.ism.ws) each day — 7 days a week. The Term of the Day is currently taken from the ISM Glossary of Key Supply Management Terms.

ISM members can access the online Members Only Glossary which includes terms from the private, public, and various industry sectors, and from a wide variety of sources. The Glossary can be browsed alphabetically, or searched by keyword.
