Thirty-one years ago, President Nixon signed an executive order to honor volunteers. Since then, every U.S. president has signed a proclamation supporting National Volunteer Week. During this week-long event, local dignitaries and elected officials make public addresses and sign proclamations in support of volunteers. It is also a time when organizations show appreciation for the work their volunteers do.
