SCORE! New Professional Development Scorecard Now Available to ISM Members

A personal professional development scorecard and its accompanying processes hold significant potential to help professionals improve advancement opportunities and job security.

Now, through ISM's ongoing partnership with CAPS Research, ISM members can utilize one of the premiere scorecards in the industry, free of charge.

The Personal Professional Development Scorecard, developed by Mark Thompson, C.P.M. (Pioneer Hi-Bred International) and Robert A. Kemp, Ph.D., C.P.M. (Kemp Enterprises) is a useful tool to support an individual's lifelong professional development goals and objectives. The Scorecard and its accompanying processes can significantly improve advancement opportunities and job security. At the same time, it can add substantial value to the individual's organization.

We all know that to remain competitive, supply professionals must be better, faster. Leveraging this scorecard can enhance employability and increase staying power - identifying needs, setting goals and measuring progress throughout one's career.

About the ISM Special Interest Groups & Forums

ISM Groups and Forums provide an opportunity for members to discuss and exchange information, as well as study, evaluate and share knowledge on industry specific purchasing challenges and opportunities.

Groups: ISM Groups are composed of members with common interests for education and networking in various topics. Group membership is open to all ISM Regular and Direct members.

Currently there are 13 ISM Groups. A sample of the available Groups includes:

  • Chemical
  • Global
  • Logistics and Transportation
  • Services

Forums: ISM Forums are composed of members who are employed in a specific sector and come together to exchange information and ideas about supply management in that specific sector. Membership may be limited to those in the sector.

Currently there are eight ISM Forums. A sample of the available Forums includes:

  • Hospitality Supply Management
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Steel Buyers

The CPSM Bridge Exam: What C.P.M.s Should Know

The Bridge is an exam for C.P.M.s in good standing who wish to attain the CPSM. It is a single exam covering contemporary content and material not covered in the current C.P.M. Exam. When a C.P.M. applies for the CPSM after passing the Bridge Exam, they must also meet the non-exam requirements for CPSM. The Bridge Exam will be available to test through the end of 2014.

Subject matter on the CPSM Bridge Exam has been updated to reflect the most current professional information and best practices. Candidates wishing to bridge from the C.P.M. should also be up-to-date. Extensive use of the CPSM Study Guide, the ISM Professional Series, the CPSM Supplemental Reading List, plus current industry white papers, periodicals and journals are highly recommended. ISM offers core material to professionals as a starting point for exam preparation. However, preparation for such a high-level qualification such as the CPSM is not limited to ISM-produced materials. Professionals at this level are expected be knowledgeable in numerous supply management concepts, with their knowledge stemming from a multitude of sources.

Term of the Day

Today's ISM Term of the Day is: VALUE ENGINEERING.

Definition: Value analysis conducted at the design engineering stage of the product development process.

A different Term of the Day is posted on the ISM Home Page ( each day — 7 days a week. The Term of the Day is currently taken from the ISM Glossary of Key Supply Management Terms.

ISM members can access the online Members Only Glossary which includes terms from the private, public, and various industry sectors, and from a wide variety of sources. The Glossary can be browsed alphabetically, or searched by keyword.
