July Manufacturing ISM Report On Business®: PMI at 53.8%

Economic activity in the manufacturing sector expanded in July for the sixth consecutive month, while the overall economy grew for the 69th consecutive month, say the nation’s supply executives in the latest Manufacturing ISM Report On Business®.

The report was issued today by Norbert J. Ore, C.P.M., chair of the Institute for Supply Management™ Manufacturing Business Survey Committee. "Following a strong second quarter, the manufacturing sector moderated somewhat this past month. In July, manufacturing expanded at its slowest pace in the last four months, but continuing strength in New Orders and Production indicate that third quarter performance should still be quite good. Upward pricing pressures now in their seventh month continue to be a major concern for supply managers."

What are the C.P.M. Lifetime Certification Requirements?

C.P.M.s applying for Lifetime certification must document at least 18 years of full-time professional supply management experience. Candidates need to earn Continuing Education Hours (CEHs) through the year in which they meet the requirements for Lifetime certification, regardless of when they apply for the designation. Term of the Day

Today's ISM Term of the Day is: ZERO DEFECTS.

Definition: An objective to produce products with no imperfections. Total Quality Management (TQM) focuses on process management so that the production of high-quality products becomes automatic. This makes constant improvement possible and moves the quality target of "zero defects" from rhetoric to reality.

A different Term of the Day is posted on the ISM Home Page (www.ism.ws) each day — 7 days a week. The Term of the Day is currently taken from the ISM Glossary of Key Supply Management Terms.

ISM members can access the online Members Only Glossary which includes terms from the private, public, and various industry sectors, and from a wide variety of sources. The Glossary can be browsed alphabetically, or searched by keyword.
