Customers dealing with small manufacturing suppliers, often marginal, closelyheld companies with minimal technical staffs, can promote the viability and responsiveness of such firms by encouraging joint ventures, co-operative sourcing, and supplier consortia. Strong historical forces work against such resource sharing, but the global economy, a customer’s market, now requires innovative approaches to achieve supplier effectiveness and economic survival. Some strategies are proposed to accomplish this effectiveness.
