Future Trends for Associations
The ASAE and the ASAE Foundation conducted environmental scan research on the emerging trends of associations. The study, titled "Facing the Future, Preparing Your Association to Thrive," concluded that associations must change the way they do business to survive and prosper in the 21st century.
Affiliate Paid Staff Visits NAPM
On September 15-16, several affiliate paid staff visited the national office in Tempe, Arizona. The meeting was the first of its kind to be held and was designed to provide affiliate paid staff the same type of information given to affiliate volunteers during the annual District Summer Workshops. "We share this information with volunteers on a regular basis, but this was the first time we've met with affiliate staff members," said Paul Novak, C.P.M., A.P.P., NAPM's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. One of the goals of the two-day meeting was to share with the affiliate staff members NAPM's direction for the future, including the 1998-2003 Strategic Plan.

C.P.M. and A.P.P. News
The January issue of Newsline is devoted to certification/accreditation articles and information. It is mailed to all active C.P.M.s, A.P.P.s, and the volunteer leadership. Please notify the certification department of any address updates you may have for those certified or accredited in your affiliate.
Volunteer Appreciation and Management
Why should an NAPM member become active in your affiliate? One reason is that many volunteer leadership positions can be used for individual skill development. Members interested in leadership need to determine what skills they would like to develop. Listed below are skills that could be developed through affiliate participation and some suggested activities to help sharpen those skills. Share this list with your members and encourage them to become active in affiliate leadership.
