    I have served as Professional Development Chair at the national level. I have also served on the NAPM Board as District VII Director and Director at Large. I mention this because these experiences led me to support this action. Our goal for the summer workshops has always been effective communication and training for affiliate leaders. Many of us have thought for a long time that the workshops could be improved. Now with control and responsibility for the summer workshops in each district, we have a better way to facilitate communication and training for affiliate leaders.

  • NAPM and CAPS: A Partnership for Professional Knowledge Members Only Content

    The Center for Advanced Purchasing Studies (CAPS) is a program jointly sponsored by Arizona State University and NAPM. CAPS was founded in 1986 with the mission of conducting and publishing advanced research work concerning issues that are reshaping the purchasing and supply management profession. Although it was conceived as a partnership between a major professional organization and a major research university, CAPS has always been a coalition of the partners and corporate donors. These partners and donors constitute a 22-person Board of Trustees who work with the CAPS Director to set CAPS' policies and overall research direction. The NAPM President, Executive Vice President, and the NAPM Educational Resources Committee Chair are members of the Board of Trustees.

    Pro-D chairs and affiliate program chairs are reminded to submit requests for NAPM Continuing Education Hours. Continuing education hours will be awarded for pre-/post-dinner meetings scheduled for the 1998-99 program year.

    You have just completed training your officers and committee chairs. The committees are ready to spring into action. Everything is moving forward. You have reached this stage before, and then, all of a sudden, volunteers lose interest. How do you prevent this from happening again? In the volunteer world there are factors other than paychecks that move people to action. Let us explore what motivates the volunteer to serve.
