Board of Directors Update
The Annual Meeting of the Members of the National Association of Purchasing Management, Inc. and the 2000-01 NAPM Board of Directors meeting were held on April 28, 2001, just prior to the 86th Annual International Purchasing Conference in Orlando, Florida. The 2001-02 Board of Directors met on May 2-3, 2001, just after the Conference.
"Supplier Relationships: Selection and Development" is the focus of the June 14, 2001, Satellite Seminar. Carl Benner, director of the Management Consulting Services division of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, will facilitate the discussion, which will include a look at market forces affecting supplier selection and development, as well as best practices and strategies for establishing and nurturing supplier relationships. Joining Benner on the panel are: Commander Dale P. Cottongim, strategic sourcing program manager in the Acquisition Management and Logistics Policy Directorate of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA); Howard H. Haglund, fuel service operation manager for USAirways; and Dale K. Ott, director of purchasing for Symbol Technologies, Inc.
C.P.M. and A.P.P. News
The goal of adding new C.P.M.s each year is central to the health and long-term success of the C.P.M. program. The Certification Committee, while working more directly with affiliates, has established a goal to increase the number of C.P.M.s by 2,100 in 2001-02. NAPM has made increasing the number of C.P.M.s a top priority as we continue to provide resources to support the marketing and visibility of the program. This new goal supports the strategic plan approved by the NAPM Board of Directors to increase the number of active C.P.M.s and A.P.P.s to 40,000 by January 1, 2005.
This year's annual international conference was once again a resounding success. The three-and-a-half-day event was attended by over 2,500 professionals, and included more than 100 concurrent workshops as well as several general session speakers and an expansive educational exhibit. The depth and complexity of the conference grows each year, and requires a great deal of work both before the event and on site.
