The Situation
Jane Evans, buyer at Peachwood Manufacturing, has been told to purchase from a specific supplier. Her supplier analysis shows the need for an alternative choice. But, she's being unduly influenced - even to the degree of a veiled threat. Says Steve Jones, "The boss wants you to buy from Joe's Glass Company and if they have the best prices and can deliver, then why not? Besides, you know how Mike can be when he doesn't get his way. I remember the last time a purchaser didn't buy from one of Mike's friends. It took Mike no more than four weeks to get rid of him. The sad part was he was a good purchaser. He couldn't see that sometimes you just do what the boss says."
