Constantly monitor your ethics policy to help ensure its effectiveness. Most organizations adopt some type of formal ethics policy stating what is considered acceptable and/or unacceptable business behavior. Ethical policies have evolved to include everything from gifts and gratuities to online/computer protocol and use of office equipment. Purchasing departments often derive their own ethics policy based on the overall organizational policy. Once in place, ethics policies need to be monitored, consistently communicated, and updated to avoid ethical pitfalls.
