|Experience Counts — ISM Announces New Designation for Career Professionals
Certified in Supply Management™ (CSM™) designation validates experience and knowledge.
(Tempe, Ariz.) September, 7, 2011 — Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) announces a new certification option for professionals who aim to prove their experience and broad-based knowledge in all the major components of supply management. The Certified in Supply Management™ (CSM™) designation debuts November 15, 2011 and will allow practitioners to demonstrate knowledge in supply management, regardless of whether they have a college degree.
ISM Professional Credentials Committee Chair Karen Fedele, CPSM, C.P.M., says the new CSM™ solidifies ISM's status as the premiere association for all supply management professionals. "The CSM™ meets the needs of a large number of our constituents who want a designation that accurately reflects their knowledge and dedication to their chosen career, but were not in a position to pursue a four-year degree," Fedele says. "I'm thrilled ISM has added this current, relevant designation option that recognizes the expanded sphere of supply management."
ISM Board Chair Sidney Johnson, CPSM, stresses ISM's mission to lead and serve supply management by providing opportunities that advance the profession and, at the same time, allow individuals to advance in their careers. "Basic skills are no longer sufficient to compete in the international arena," Johnson says. "ISM has global reach and the new CSM™ option gives a broad range of practitioners a valuable way to prove and leverage their supply management knowledge and expertise."
The new CSM™ tests the same body of knowledge as ISM's Certified Professional in Supply Management® (CPSM®) credential, which debuted in 2008. CSM™ eligibility is dependent on a candidate's educational background and work experience.
Eligibility requirements for the CSM™ are:
- Successfully pass three CSM™ Exams or if a C.P.M. in good standing, pass the CSM™ Bridge Exam.
- Three years of full-time, professional supply management experience (non-clerical, non-support) with an associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution (or international equivalent) OR five years full-time, professional supply management experience (non-clerical, non-support).

|Feature Article: Spotting Talent Before You Need It
Did you ever wonder why some companies struggle to hire talent, and some are able to find the people they need, time after time? It's not an accident. The best managers understand that they need to use every resource possible to build the talent level of their organization, and one of the best ways of doing this is what I call "building a people bank."
Put simply, a "people bank" is a database of people you have encountered, and who you think might make good additions to your company when the opportunity presents itself. Building a strong people bank isn't difficult, but it is something that requires advance planning. The problem is that most companies only think of their hiring needs when they have an open position to fill. However, we often find the right person when we're not looking. A people bank is a good way to make sure we are in recruiting mode all the time so we can activate the bank when we need someone.

- If you have never created a profile/account on the ISM website — or if you don't remember if you have an account — click "Log In" in the upper right-hand corner of the ISM Home Page.
- Under "Log In," you will find a "Did you forget your username and password?" link. Click that link, and enter your e-mail address. (If you have more than one e-mail address, try each one.)
- If you do have an account, the ISM system will e-mail you your username and password.
- If, however, the system tells you the e-mail address was not found in our records, you will want to create a new account. Do this by clicking the "My Account" tab in the upper right-hand corner of the ISM website, followed by "Create New Account."
- Once you've created your new account, proceed to the "Manage Newsletters" link, which is also found under the "My Account" tab.
- Finally, select Just in ETime from the list of available newsletters and click the "Update Subscription" button at the bottom of the page.
