| ISM-NBTA Summit on Travel & Meetings Scheduled for January 27-28 in Charlotte, North Carolina |
 |
Travel & Meetings: Supply Management's Critical Role
January 27-28, 2009
Westin Charlotte
Charlotte, North Carolina
The ISM-NBTA summit "Travel & Meetings: Supply Management's Critical Role" is an outstanding opportunity for experienced professionals with oversight responsibilities for business travel and meeting spend within supply management operations.
The conference will focus on the challenges associated with the complex task of managing travel and meetings — the largest indirect spend category. Its goal is to facilitate strategic dialogue between professionals who directly oversee the travel and meetings management functions within their companies and those in the procurement organization who have direct supervision over those functional areas.
The ideal conference attendees are:
- Senior travel management professionals who report to their companies' procurement (supply management) operations;
- Senior meetings management professionals who report to their companies' procurement (supply management) operations; and
- Senior purchasing professionals to whom the travel and/or meetings functions report.
Whether you're a supply management professional or a travel or meetings management agent, a lot of knowledge can be gained from the views and suggested solutions of professionals on both sides of the spectrum.

| 2009 NARTS Program Cancelled |
 |
After discussions with various academic leaders, the 20th Annual North American Research and Teaching Symposium on Purchasing and Supply Chain Management (NARTS), scheduled for March 12-13, 2009, has been cancelled. The Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) apologizes for any inconvenience this cancellation may have created.
The economic challenges experienced globally over the last several months have caused very real challenges for academia and business alike. Feedback from the business and academic communities indicates that budgetary constraints exist at this time. In making this difficult decision, ISM re-evaluated the program's expenses and took into consideration the program's financial impact upon all organizations involved.
We are pleased to report that we received numerous quality papers for this event. ISM would like to thank those educators who submitted papers, as well as many of their colleagues who may have given input for their completion. We also appreciate those individuals who reviewed submitted papers and provided essential feedback regarding the submitted papers. These submissions represent the importance the academic and business community place on supply chain management — and makes the decision to cancel the event even more difficult.
Each year, NARTS surfaces unique and innovative papers from academic professionals across the globe. Although we anticipate that the 2010 program will proceed as scheduled, ISM will notify all concerned parties regarding the status of the event at a later date.

A different Term of the Day is posted on the ISM Home Page (www.ism.ws) each day — seven days a week. The Term of the Day is taken from the ISM Glossary of Key Supply Management Terms.
ISM members can access the online Members Only Glossary which includes terms from the private, public, and various industry sectors, and from a wide variety of sources. The Glossary can be browsed alphabetically, or searched by keyword.
