April Manufacturing ISM Report On Business®: PMI at 57.3%

Economic activity in the manufacturing sector grew in April for the 35th consecutive month, while the overall economy grew for the 54th consecutive month, say the nation's supply executives in the latest Manufacturing ISM Report On Business®.

The report was issued today by Norbert J. Ore, C.P.M., chair of the Institute for Supply Management™ Manufacturing Business Survey Committee. "The manufacturing sector grew at a faster rate during April as production and employment showed significant strength. The level of activity is driving some inventory growth as the Inventory Index moved above 50 percent, reversing a 12-month trend. April's Index of 57.3 percent is the highest since November 2005. While many members indicate that business is good, they still have major concerns about the impact of higher prices for energy and industrial commodities."

ISM and the ISM Knowledge Center have New Web Sites

After months of planning and hard work, ISM is pleased to announce the launch of our new Web site! We're still at the same URL: www.ism.ws, but we have improved the usability and navigation so that you can find what you're looking for faster and easier.

One of the most exciting enhancements is that we have segmented our content into topic areas related to supply management to make searching and locating information very simple.

We request that you log-in to the ISM Web site every time you visit to take advantage of these new features. The first time you log-in to the new site (upper right-hand corner of Web page), you'll have the opportunity to select your areas of interest so we can deliver the content and products/service you're interested in. After you log in, visit the 'My Interests' link to see the list of topic areas. Simply view the topic areas and use your mouse to move the interest-level sliders to indicate more or less interest in each one. The more you use our site, the better we will be able to present to you new site content that matches your areas of interest.

To log-in to the site, ISM members will use their ISM ID number as their username (sample ID: 000000995555) and their LAST name as their password.

We've also launched our new Knowledge Center (KC) at www.ism-knowledgecenter.ws. (ISM members should use their ISM ID number [including all zeroes] and last name to log in.) If you had access to any courses in the old KC, you can still access them. You'll notice significantly improved navigation and ease of use. To enter the KC, simply click the ENTER button under CURRENT USERS on the left side of the page. You may also want to click on the ORIENTATION and/or the FEATURES links on the KC home page to learn more about the KC and how to access your courses.

Reminder: Be sure to update your browser's "favorites" file if you've bookmarked any links on the old ISM Web site.
