The John H. Hoagland Award was created to recognize and honor the contributions of outstanding academics and practitioners in supply management. Professor Hoagland taught supply management from 1952 to 1990 at Michigan State University to undergraduate, graduate and executive students. As one of the first academics in the field of purchasing and operations, he was instrumental in training doctoral students who would later deliver courses in purchasing at universities and colleges around the world. He also made strong contributions in research, focusing on business surveys to study leading economic indicators and business trends.
The Award is sponsored by The Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) based on recommendation of the ISM Educational Resources Committee (ERC).
Faculty, supply management practitioners and other professionals who have made distinguished contributions to the field of supply management are eligible. Please note: Self-nominations are not accepted.
Nominations are invited from universities, companies, affiliates, associations and individuals. Both U.S. and international candidates are eligible. Membership in ISM is not a required condition for nomination.
The Award may be granted annually. ISM reserves the right at its sole discretion to select a recipient or to not grant an Award in any annual period.
The nomination period is open from August 1 through the last working day of the month of September each year. An announcement of the opening of the nomination period will be made annually.

All documentation should be submitted at the same time the online nomination form is submitted. Award winner(s) will be invited to attend the next scheduled North American Research Symposium (NARS) where the award will be presented. ISM will provide complimentary NARS registration for the winner and one guest, including financial support for travel, meals and lodging.
