Available beginning in June, ISM's Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) program is making quite a stir — and generating a lot of questions among Conference attendees. To bring them up to speed, the ISM Professional Credentials Committee and hosts Karen Collins, C.P.M., A.P.P., manager of professional credentials, and Christina Foster, SPHR, vice president of professional credentials and diversity, led an informational meeting for all Conference attendees on Sunday morning.

Attendees learned about the general requirements for the CPSM and the Bridge Exam (for C.P.M.s in good standing). Collins and Foster offered also offered a "portrait" of the average CPSM person and what attendees can expect while pursuing the CPSM, including a breakdown of all three tests and the Bridge exam; the levels of learning being tested; the types of questions and scoring they can anticipate; and the related study materials and their costs. On-site CPSM testing will be available for organizations with five or more people pursuing the certification.

Attendees interested in becoming CPSM instructors received a 2008 Train the Trainer Program schedule, with dates in Missouri, Illinois, North Carolina, Texas, Massachusetts, Nevada and Arizona. Online training will also be available, according to Collins and Foster.

The presenters wrapped up their session with the results from the CPSM pilot testing program. As Foster pointed out, the testing had global reach, with individuals participating from all over the world. Among the 2,500-plus exam-takers, Foster estimates between 65 percent and 75 percent passed — a figure comparable to ISM's C.P.M. exam. CPSM scores will be sent out next week.
