Controlling machine tool costs

I work for a machine shop that goes thru a ton of mills, taps, dies and
other tools to make finished parts. I currently purchase most of these items
thru industrial suppliers. I'm looking at installing a vendor machine to control
inventory levels and monitor usage, but am curious how others buy these items.
What is normal mark-up from manufactures verses industrial suppliers?
