The difference
The difference between a Senior Buyer and a Category Manager can vary dependent upon the type of organization. Generally speaking a Senior Buyer is a lead buyer in the team and is capable of procuring goods from multiple categories if one is not designated to a category/portfolio.
A Category Manager is the Procurement Manager specified to a particular category such as IT, Facilities, or MRO and can have multiple senior buyers and or buyers under their team.
Category Managers all then report to the Director of Procurement/Finance/Operations dependent upon the organization.
