Default Warranty Recovery/Claims

Can anyone provide insight or experience into warranty recovery within the Production Equipment and MRO categories? We are looking for a process to implement in our manufacturing environment that can help us track equipment/parts that are covered under warranties and also provide a process to claim those warranties.

Any help is much appreciated.

Our ERP system allows us to flag components that have warranty. We can enter additional data on length of warranty, but the main data such as purchase date, etc. auto populate based off of the PO information. Once an item fails we can go back into the system, and verify if any warranty is available. An important thing to remember is you need identifiers such as serial numbers or internal asset numbers assigned or else you will not be able to identify which is which when dealing with like items. I have worked in environments that created an Access database to track warranty items separately. Although it is cumbersome it can work the same way as a fully loaded ERP system it just needs more manual manipulation.

Default Asset tags

....when I worked mfg we utilized our scannable (sturdy) asset tags to keep up with this and other data as needed (calibration, location, point in depreciation, maintenance schedule....)
