I am trying to determine whether benchmarks exist for staffing a warehouse based on inventory value and sales for that warehouse. (eg. 1 warehouse worker per $15,000 in inventory value and $20,000 in sales or 1 warehouse worker per 500 inventory sku's) In my organization I oversee 70 different warehousing operations with inventory values ranging from approximately $10,000 to $2.5 million and sales from all of these stores exceeding $30 million annually. 26 of our stores are "unstaffed" but are overseen by a roving staff that does cycle counting, ordering and stocking.

Ken:
Hard to say without knowing more. Have you looked at the number and speed of picks in your warehouse to see what the throughput is? How many shifts? Central warehouse supporting other destination warehouses? Hope that helps. |
