The difference between Purchasing and Sourcing

Can anyone advise the difference between sourcing and purchasing ? is there any book describe it ? thank you.

Stefan- Boiled down, sourcing is a procurement function (an input) where materials are located to fit a particular functional need. Purchasing is the function (an output) of bringing in that sourced material when there is demand of it.

If the need should change, then purchasing has to wait for procurement to re-source.

I have seen this process being either seperate within an org. or combined.
