Hallmark Card Buyer, Not Only Sends the Very Best, Is "The Very Best" Selected Leadership Person of the Year By NAPM

(New Orleans, Louisiana) — The hallmarks of good leaders are leading by example, a "can-do" attitude, and managing change effectively. Mark A. Smith, C.P.M., a senior buyer with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, is skilled at all of the above, which is why he is the first recipient of the National Association of Purchasing Management's (NAPM) national "Leadership Person of the Year" Award.

Smith, currently President of NAPM's Kansas City affiliate, has been instrumental in executing several strategies geared toward enhancing the operation and growth of NAPM Kansas City, Inc. He was heavily involved in the creation and implementation of NAPM Kansas City's marketing plan, its local website, and the transition of member communication to email. In addition to his role as President, Smith has also served NAPM Kansas City in a variety of other leadership positions, including First and Second Vice-President.

"I am pleased and humbled to receive this award from NAPM," said Smith. "It has been a privilege to work with so many outstanding supply management professionals who believe, as I do, in sharing our knowledge and expertise with the purchasing community."

NAPM's newly created "Person of the Year" Award program recognizes outstanding achievement, beyond the regular scope of work, by its members in five categories: Education/Learning, Leadership, Innovation/Creativity, Marketing/Communicating, and Volunteer. Beginning with the inaugural awards in 2000, these prestigious honors will be presented at the NAPM International Purchasing Conference on May 1, 2000 in New Orleans, LA.
