(Tempe, Ariz.) — The Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) presented Affiliate of the Year honors to NAPM—Pittsburgh at the ISM 89th Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit in Philadelphia on April 27, 2004.

The Affiliate of the Year Award is the highest distinction among affiliates that demonstrate excellence in several core competencies including affiliate operations, educational opportunities, membership activities, communication and marketing. The Affiliate of the Year Award communicates the value and prestige of the Institute for Supply Management™ and the supply management profession.

"Our success is attributable to our members and our board of directors and officers in the association," says NAPM—Pittsburgh Marketing Manager Lisa Romango. "We have a fantastic group of members who are active and vocal. They are constantly providing feedback and expressing their professional development needs. And our board members are great listeners. They know it's important to recognize the member, thank the member and let them know they value their input."

NAPM—Pittsburgh continually strives to increase membership and broaden the association's visibility. The recently formed Ambassadors Group includes prominent purchasing professionals in the Pittsburgh area who target companies at the director level and introduce them to NAPM—Pittsburgh. When calling on the target companies, Ambassadors Group members present clean, quick-read marketing materials geared to senior-level management. The Ambassador Brochure is printed in newsletter format and highlights more than 20 reasons to join NAPM—Pittsburgh. "Part of our recruitment message is that you can't afford not to join," says Romango. "When we compare the dollar value of member resources, programs and seminars to the cost of membership we prove that for a $175 investment, we offer a return of more than $1,500."

When appropriate, NAPM—Pittsburgh promotes meetings and events to other professional organizations such as the National Contract Management Association (NCMA), The American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) and the Pittsburgh Regional Minority Purchasing Council. "We host speakers with cross appeal to these organizations and always draw a large crowd," Romango says.

NAPM—Pittsburgh enhanced its Web site with the creation of a Members Only area. "This restricted area allows unemployed and underemployed members to access the Resume Distribution Service and complete employment information entirely online," Romango explains. The entire membership directory was also moved to the Members Only area, eliminating the need for a printed directory. The online membership directory allowed NAPM—Pittsburgh to save approximately $3,000 in printing and mailing costs and gives members the ability to update their directory information at any time.

All affiliates, regardless of size, have the same opportunity to achieve the highest distinction — Affiliate of the Year. Affiliates that meet and surpass the core competencies earn the Affiliate Excellence designation.
