(Tempe, AZ) — The Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) has announced that Lee S. Crane has earned its 40,000th C.P.M. (Certified Purchasing Manager) designation, the leading certification for professionals in purchasing and supply management. Mr. Crane has earned a complimentary registration to ISM's 88th Annual Conference in Nashville. While there, Crane will be honored during a luncheon ceremony on Tuesday, May 20th, with a framed certificate for reaching this respectable milestone.

"This is an exciting event for ISM," states Christina Foster, vice president of certification and diversity for ISM. "Reaching the 40,000th C.P.M. milestone reinforces the fact that lifelong education and advanced certifications continue to be very relevant and important to one's success. We are extremely pleased to share in this celebration with Mr. Crane," continues Foster.

Crane is a purchasing and supply management specialist with the U.S. Postal Service, and is responsible for the management of the Postal Service's supply chain for office products and equipment. Prior to the U.S. Postal Service, Crane was a corporate purchasing manager for Lifecodes Corporation (now a division of Orchid BioSciences). It was there that his mentor, John White, a 30-year supply management veteran, introduced him to ISM, its value, and the need for continuing education. "I already had a BA in economics and will receive an MBA from the University of New Haven in December 2003, but I realized very early in my career that receiving a C.P.M. designation would allow me to be universally recognized as a supply management professional," states Crane. "The process itself of obtaining a C.P.M. was an invaluable educational experience," continues Crane. "The study material for the C.P.M. program solidified my understanding of concepts that I had previously encountered only in practice, and exposed me to additional ideas I had never even considered before. The process in and of itself was well worth the time and effort, and the knowledge gained will make me a better buyer and purchasing manager."

To attend Crane's award presentation, register for the ISM 88th Annual International Conference at, or call ISM's Customer Service Department at 800/888-6276, extension 401. For additional information on the C.P.M. designation and study materials, log on to
