(TEMPE, Ariz.) March 2005 is Supply Management Month and the launch of a worldwide supply management image campaign developed by Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM). The campaign theme is Supply Management: Maximizing Opportunities, Managing Risk.
ISM, the leader in supply management information, training, and resources, has developed the image campaign to increase understanding and awareness of supply management. ISM defines supply management as the identification, acquisition, access, positioning and management of resources the organization needs or potentially needs in the attainment of its strategic objectives.
As one area of supply management, traditional purchasing activities have always contributed value, through negotiating lower prices and/or selecting the best supplier(s) for each given situation. However, the role of the purchasing professional has become more critical and strategic. Supply management now has the ability to integrate all areas of the organization at all stages of business.
Activities during 2005 Supply Management Month and throughout the image campaign will highlight the critical role supply management professionals play in business success today.
