(Tempe, Ariz.) May 28, 2013 — Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) recognized five individuals as Persons of the Year for their volunteer leadership efforts during the prior year. Persons of the Year were publicly announced at an appreciation breakfast and awards presentation held during ISM's 98th Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit, in Dallas/Ft. Worth. The 2012 Persons of the Year recipients are:
Education/Learning Person of the Year: Ben R. Milam, C.P.M., CPPM, NAPM—Alaska, Inc.
Milam is primarily responsible for NAPM—Alaska's successful professional development program, with nine meetings per year that provide high value to attendees as well as a source of revenue for the affiliate. He is also a tireless promoter of ISM's professional designations and familiar face at ISM's leadership training workshops and Annual Conferences.
Innovation/Creativity Person of the Year: Tex Shellhart, C.P.M., ISM—Nashville, Inc.
Since taking over as president of ISM—Nashville, Tex Shellhart has been an agent of change, revitalizing existing committee structure, creating a new technology committee, suggesting new educational topics, implementing a new marketing campaign and creating a new website — the results of which have included an increase in meeting attendance.
Leadership Person of the Year: James R. Fleeker, C.P.M., ISM—Dallas, Inc.
A true agent of change, Fleeker embodies leadership, from improving his affiliate's strategic plan to streamlining the board meeting process. In addition to continually promoting ISM's mission and vision, he's decreased dinner meeting costs in his tenure and serves as a mentor for students from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Marketing/Communicating Person of the Year: Alex F. Alvarez, CPSM, CPSD, C.P.M., A.P.P., ISM—Dallas, Inc.
A longtime supporter of ISM, Alvarez truly went above and beyond in 2012. Accomplishments include participating in and presenting at industry events, serving on numerous committees, leading fundraising efforts, recruiting members, mentoring young professionals and more, all while serving as vice president of education for ISM—Dallas.
Volunteer Person of the Year: Evan S. Nash, C.P.M., CPHS, ISM—Carolinas-Virginia, Inc.
Nash, now in his second term as affiliate president, is a tireless contributor to ISM. From outreach efforts with groups such as APICS and the National Restaurant Association to his participation on numerous committees and his tireless fundraising efforts, he is a true champion of the supply management profession.
