(Tempe, Ariz.) April 12, 2011 — Ten students, representing seven leading universities, are recipients of 2011 R. Gene Richter Scholarships. Now in its eighth year, the R. Gene Richter Scholarship Program is the largest nationally recognized scholarship program in the field of supply chain management. Winners will be recognized May 15, 2011 at an awards dinner held during Institute for Supply Management™'s 96th Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit in Orlando, Florida. Scholarships are awarded through ISM's R. Gene Richter Scholarship Fund and through the R. Gene and Nancy D. Richter Foundation. The 2011 Richter Scholars receive tuition assistance of up to US$5,000 and the benefits of an executive mentor, which pairs the student with an established executive, and a junior mentor, which pairs the student with a former Richter scholar.
The R. Gene Richter Scholarship Program was established and named in memory of R. Gene Richter, who was a galvanizing force in the field of procurement. Richter is admired for elevating the profession to world-class stature. He led the supply organizations at The Black & Decker Corporation, Hewlett-Packard and International Business Machines (IBM).
