(Tempe, AZ) March 18, 2011 — Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM), with the support of the ISM Educational Resources Committee, has awarded the John H. Hoagland Award for Distinguished Service to Michiel R. Leenders, DBA. Leenders is professor emeritus at the Richard Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario. He was recognized during the 2011 North American Research Symposium held March 17-18, 2011 in San Diego.
Leenders earned his undergraduate degree in mining engineering from the University of Alberta, followed by an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario. A full professor for 30 years, Leenders headed the operations management group for 25 years and was director of the Richard Ivey School of Business Ph.D. program for five years. He holds a doctorate degree from the Harvard Business School.
For more than 40 years, Leenders worked with the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) to develop a world-class professional development program. He is author/co-author of several world-renowned textbooks, including Purchasing and Supply Management, published by McGraw-Hill Irwin and now in its 14th edition.
The John H. Hoagland Award for Distinguished Service is named for John H. Hoagland, Ph.D., C.P.M., professor emeritus at Michigan State University's Eli Broad College of Business. Hoagland taught from 1952 until his retirement in 1990. He is internationally recognized for his legacy to purchasing and the supply management profession, which includes contributions to business and economic research, notably the advancement of ISM's Business Survey Committee by improving its monthly statistical reports.
The John H. Hoagland Award is designed to recognize outstanding contributions to the field of supply management through research, teaching and service. It is not conferred annually, but is presented to recognize individuals whose lifetime achievement and contribution to the field deserves special recognition.
