FOR RELEASE: May 4, 2009
(Tempe, Ariz.) May 4, 2009 — Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) has awarded NAPM—Tulsa, Inc. the prestigious Affiliate of the Year Award. ISM officially recognized affiliate excellence today at a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast during its 94th Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Affiliate Excellence Awards recognize ISM affiliates that demonstrate an awareness and distinction in their professional operations, educational offerings, and ability to recruit, train and retain members, while at the same time communicating the value and prestige of ISM and the supply management profession.
According to NAPM—Tulsa, Inc. President Robert E. Tipton, CPSM, C.P.M., several key factors contributed to success in 2008. One crucial factor was the knowledge and best practices board members gained from attending ISM's annual Leadership Training Workshops. Additionally, as part of its annual planning retreat, affiliate leaders use the Affiliate Excellence application as a guide for continual improvement and goal setting. "The application is an excellent resource for Affiliate's striving for achievement," Tipton says.
NAPM—Tulsa's mission statement "to promote Professionalism, Integrity, and Education (P.I.E.) in Purchasing and Supply Management," guides the affiliate's programs and events. Adds Tipton, "An outstanding group of volunteers contributed to our recognition for 2008. The hours of volunteerism by these professionals led to a 14 percent growth in membership and more than 50 percent increase in program attendance during 2008."
Each ISM Affiliate, regardless of size, has the opportunity to achieve Affiliate Excellence recognition by meeting each of the core competency requirements. Those selected for the Affiliate of the Year have surpassed the designated core competency requirements found on the official nomination form, including but not limited to membership growth, professional development opportunities and valuable affiliate membership meetings.
Ten Affiliates met the level of excellence for 2008. They are:
China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, Inc.
ISM—Greater Grand Rapids, Inc.
NAPM—New Mexico, Inc.
