(Tempe, Ariz.) May 5, 2008 — Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) today announced winners of its 3rd Annual ISM R. Gene Richter Awards for Leadership and Innovation in Supply Management. Supply departments at five companies were honored in St. Louis at ISM's 93rd Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit. Awards are announced at an invitation-only dinner and winners present their stories at workshop sessions that are open to all Conference attendees.
Winners were selected from applications received in four categories: Process; Technology; People; and Organization/Structure. The 2008 Richter Corporate Award recipients are:
HP (Process Category)
HP's award-winning submission detailed the success of the company's social and environmental responsibility (SER) program. HP's approach to implementing SER is based on early, frequent and proactive involvement with suppliers to develop a partnership for healthy, safe and improved workplace conditions.
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company (Process Category)
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, a business area of Lockheed Martin, is a leader in design, research and development, systems integration, and production and support of advanced military aircraft and related technologies. The company's award-winning entry described the development and deployment of a Forecasted Raw Material (FoRM) tool, an information technology solution that gathers required data from various systems and generates a comprehensive, time-phased raw material forecast for the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).
Masco Corporation (Technology Category)
Masco Corporation is one of the world's largest manufacturers of brand-name consumer products for the home improvement and new construction markets. Masco's supply management organization created a technology solution to measure and manage its spend. Although supplier relationship management (SRM) tools are not new, Masco is cited for taking the technology "to a new level" and implementing the project with an aggressive time schedule at multiple locations in a highly decentralized environment.
Pfizer Inc (Process Category)
Global healthcare leader Pfizer Inc took e-sourcing to a new level with an innovative reverse auction process to venture outside traditional commodity territory and into research and development sourcing. The Pfizer Worldwide Procurement team developed a sourcing strategy with a new reverse auction tool playing a key role as it began to source commodities considered core to the research and development organization — items that are highly technical in nature and require very specific skill sets.
Royal KPN Telecom (Process Category)
Royal KPN Telecom provides telephone, Internet and television services to customers through its fixed network in the Netherlands. The company's award-winning submission detailed challenges in an existing relationship between KPN and its outsourced IT provider. A newly organized procurement organization created a value-based relationship program called the Collaborative KPI program to improve supplier relationships and improve end-customer service. KPN now applies the KPIs to all its outsourced services.
