JPMorgan Global PMI: Global Report on Manufacturing - September 4, 2007

Growth of Global Manufacturing Output Posted Slight Acceleration in August, but Rate of Expansion in New Orders Continued to Soften.

August PMI data provided further evidence that the expansion of the global manufacturing sector during Q3 2007 is likely to be more subdued than in the previous quarter. The JPMorgan Global Manufacturing PMI posted 53.0 in August, a level above the no-change mark of 50.0 for the fiftieth successive month, but its lowest reading since March.

After losing noticeable traction since the start of H2 2007, the rate of growth of incoming new orders slipped to a five-month low in August. Although the rate of expansion in production picked up slightly from July's six-month low, it was still well below the high recorded for June.
