CAPS, jointly established in 1986 and sponsored by ISM and Arizona State University's W. P. Carey School of Business, has successfully developed practitioner-oriented research in its focus studies, benchmarking reports, and best practices reports (Practix). CAPS is the first nonprofit research center in North America dedicated to solving strategic issues in purchasing and supply management.
Most of CAPS' support comes from corporations and organizations that recognize the competitive advantage that comes from strategic research.
But CAPS receives support from many individuals too--they are leaders in the profession, Certified Purchasing Managers, entry-level buyers, and academics. They are new to the profession and seasoned practitioners. But they share this in common: they know that CAPS is examining the horizon of their profession, alert to the trends and issues that will eventually expand their own purchasing/supply management expertise.
